Why is Gmail not working? Broken labels, settings and more...

in

I really like using Gmail. I use it to manage all of my emails. I run all of my domain based emails through Gmail. Even if I send an email from a desktop client application it automatically BCC's to the primary Gmail account. This allows me to search all of my emails (sent and received) from one location.

But now Gmail is driving me nuts. At first it was Google Talk constantly getting logged off. Now it is Labels. In Firefox I cannot even access the Settings Tab and therefore I cannot access Labels. That means I have to open IE.

The following is from IE 7.0.5700.6

Renaming Broken

1) Go to the Labels tab
2) Click Rename
3) Rename the label in the pop-up window box
4) Click 'Okay" window box closes
5) Main page re-freshes and then "The label "Original_Name" could not be found." appears the top of the page
6) Label was not renamed

Delete Label Broken

1) From Label page click "remove"
2) Window box pops up for confirmation and I click 'ok'
3) Main page re-freshes and then "The label "Original_Name" could not be found." appears the top of the page
4) Label was not deleted

So I am stuck with WAY too many labels. Other people are also having the same issue (Google Groups). If you are having this issue then pleas submit it to Google Help Center .

Google responded almost over night. Their solution... Go Secure. Google offers a secure URL to many of their services. For Gmail it is https://mail.google.com. Now here is the 'funny' part. Going to the secure URL still hasn't fixed my access issue. But mysteriously the labels that I tried to delete earlier are no 'gone'. And not from any recent action on my part so it appears that someone at Google took care of the broken label issue on my account. I am truely thankful. Here is the Google response letter to my broken label issue:

Hello,

Thanks for your report.

To fix this problem, please try logging in to your account through our secured interface. Secure HTTPS access is available via https://mail.google.com. Simply paste this URL in your browser and then log in to Gmail. Please be sure to use this exact URL, with no characters after '.com.'

If you continue to experience difficulties, please reply to this message with the following information:

- Which Internet security, firewall, anti-virus, or pop-up blocking software is installed on your computer, if any?

- Which browser extensions or toolbars are installed on your computer, if any?

- Do you experience this issue if you log in to your account from a different computer?

Once we receive all the requested information, we'll investigate the issue further.

Sincerely,

The Google Team
