Eduwise, "Classmate PC" - Intel/Microsoft saves the poor
MIT has been working on the One Laptop for Every Child "OLEC" program and yes it uses Linux rather than Windows. Bill Gates was upset that Windows was not the chosen solution. The laptop would cost about $100 each.
Eduwise is designed to provide affordable, collaborative learning environments for teachers and young students. Read this as Intel/Microsoft trying their own version, since they weren't picked for the team they started up a whole new game. And guess what? Their target market is outside of OLEC's.... why? because theirs cost $220 to $300 each. I am glad that there are options. The more choices the better everyone is.
ITs just that I think I would have handled the PR spin a little different rather than sounding like the kid that didn't get picked to play. And a solution that costs almost 3 times as much just doesn't seem to sovle the issues of every child, just the ones that have a little more money than those looking at OLEC's latop.
