What color is Apple? Steve Jobs says green but others disagree
Steve Jobs of Apple has made some announcements that they have reduced the size of the packaging of some of their products and this is a good thing for the environment. I found this to be a rather humorous connection (Apple environmental page ).
It’s like a store saying that they are closed on the weekends and that this says the environment because the employees are not driving their cars to work on Saturday and Sunday. And potential customers are staying at home rather than buy their products.
Yes Apple says the environment by wrapping their products in less material. Now instead of using x amount of cardboard they use half of the weight with Plastic. It seems that if I was the earth, I would rather have 2 pounds of a paper based waste rather than 1 pound of plastic.
This makes me think of all sorts of ways that I can save the earth and its environment....
- I bought an expensive Sony Ericsson cellphone which plays MP3s - this eliminates the wasted purchase of a separate music player, its packaging, its shipping and all of the people that would have driven to work to make the music player.
- I use a 20 inch widescreen monitor - It allows me to work faster and thus save energy wastes
Back in 2005, Green Century Funds' Rachel Gibson, asked Steve about Apple's environmental record and last month Apple got low marks for eco-friendly policies from Greenpeace in a survey of electronics companies by the environmental group. Apple was placed toward the bottom of the list and in the Red zone.
