Yahoo Site Search Beta
Yahoo has released a beta URL/website submission service called Yahoo! Site Search.
It allows you to submit a feed of your website pages so Yahoo! will know when you make changes rather than having to submit each and every page each time you update your site. While I am not a user of Yahoo search tools I am happy that I now have an easy way to submit my site for potential Yahoo! surfers.
It is in Beta form and as such the tools/features are very parse. In fact their beta is even more sparse than Google when it first came out. I am disappointed that there are not more feedback options for admins. It is either good or bad with no input on what might be bad.
Now I use Drupal as my CMS which makes it difficult to verify my site for Yahoo! They want you to upload a txt file with a specific name and that contains a specific string of characters in the txt file. Yahoo will then check to see if this file is on your domain.
- asf87afa8f78afaf
Drupal has a Google Sitemap module that makes this very easy. For Yahoo! it is also easy to submit/verify your Drupal site.
- Just create a new blog/page in Drupal
- Make the title and subject the string that is provided by Yahoo!
- Set the URL as yahoo_authkey_#########.txt (this would require a Drupal Module that allows you to modify your URL)
- If you have the Drupal gSitemap module installed then in "gsitemap Settings" enter -1 (this prevents the page from being sent to Google search results)
- In "Publishing Options" check
- "Published" (this publishes the page so it can be found by Yahoo!)
- Don't Check "Promoted to front page" (this prevents your verification code from showing on the main page)
- Click "submit" and then click "verify" on the Yahoo! page
- Once the page is verified then go back and delete it
