Add notes to an email in Thunderbird with Notary
I seriously don't know why this did not happen years ago. Basic Document Workflow on a PC; I create a file, I work with the file and I want to be able to comment "on/about" the file not "in" the file.
I finally found an extension that allows me to add notes to any email in Mozilla Thunderbird. I originally switched from MS Outlook 2003 to Thunderbird because I wanted spam filtering built-in not added on for a fee. But I have since come to love the incredible speed and flexibility of Thunderbird's extensions.
Thunderbird Notary allows me to connect my thoughts directly to the email I sent or received. Mindblog has an interesting article on how to use Thunderbird for your GTD tasks.
I have been in love with gmail (especially the excellent threaded conversation views and multi-labeling) but there are two extensions that may just break me away. This incredible Notary note tool and the time saving Thunderbird QuickText (it allows me to automate redundant emails).
Now there is a catch on the Notary extension. It 'thinks' that it is not compatable with Thunderbird 1.5! Ha! On the extension's homepage it explains the solution:
-
1) Download the xpi extension file
2) Open the xpi file with an archive utility like 7-zip
3) Open the install.rdf in a text editor
4) Change 1.0 to 1.5 like this: {em:maxVersion}1.5+{/em:maxVersion}
5) Save the modified file to another folder then copy the back into the archive
6) Install the new xpi into Thunderbird and restart
Here is an example of Notary in action!

I have attached the my copy of the modified file just in case, but I recommend that you download a copy from the offical site as their's may be newer.

What do you think about this utility? Do you have another favorite for Thunderbird?
