Garland Public Library announces downloads of movies 1 day before offical first
Garland Online
annouced that on April 20, the Nicholson Memorial Library System of
Garland, Texas, (a suburb of Dallas) will become one of the first
libraries in the nation and the first in Texas to offer free downloads
of copy protected movies, TV shows, and educational videos. This
release date is also mentioned on theCity of Garland page.
The new service was developed by OverDrive, but you wouldn't know it from their website. Its not even listed on their Press Release page.
In fact their PR page gives credit to Denver's public library as the
first library in the nation to offer free downloads of copy protected
movies, TV shows, and educational videos. But the release is dated for
April 21st.
Either way I think this is a great service to the communities, but I
really get a kick out of a company that has such important news to
announce and then just completely forgets that they have a client in
Dallas, Texas that started using their product 1 day before their offical first use winner!
I guess the company's PR team thinks that Denver is a sexier city
than Garland and decides not to list their Dallas suburb client.
Personally I feel that this says alot about a business if their
marketing teams are sync'd with the Sales and account people.
On the other hand I believe that this service is incredible. I am
not sure what resolution the videos are going to be in but it does
reference use in laptops and handhelds.
